Art Club: After school club for various grades sponsored by the art department.

Birthday Book Club: The library offers parents the opportunity to purchase a book to be donated to the library in honor of their child’s birthday. A permanent book plate is placed in the book so that others will know that this book was donated in honor of that particular student.

Boo Hoo Breakfast: Deep Wood parents meet in the library at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast goodies and good company on the first day of school.

Book Fair: The library hosts a Book Fair that helps bring new reading materials for students. It’s a great opportunity to make purchases for the holiday season or summer reading!

Box Tops/Labels for Education: The easiest fundraising ever! Check your groceries for specially marked labels, turn them in to the classroom teacher, and Deep Wood gets the cash–$.10 per label!

Broadcast Club: This is a drop-in club for students interested in working on specific broadcasting / video projects.

Chili / Queso Cook-off: The annual “friendly” competition showcasing pots of chili, queso, and other goodies provided by Deep Wood friends and families. (February)

Clothes Closet: Volunteers work at the Round Rock Clothes Closet on the schedule set by PTA council. Clothes are donated through the school nurse, laundered and transported to the RRCC. We also have a “Lost & Found” (please check this especially during the cold weather), sock and underwear drive, and Blue Santa. Bilingual individuals are encouraged to participate!

Canned Food Drive: Students collect food donations from the community during the food drive of the Round Rock Area Serving Center. (November)

Cookout: Come join your child at the Hamburger Cookout! Eating outside is a real treat for everyone!

Cup Stacking Day: Deep Wood participates in the WSSA (World Sport Stacking Association) STACK UP! on Guinness World Record Day. Sport stacking is an individual and team sport that involves stacking plastic cups in specific sequences in as little time as possible.

Curriculum Enhancement: PTA plans in-school enrichment curriculum presentations.

Dino Pop-n-Drop: Students and parents are invited to visit their new classroom, drop off school supplies, and see friends. Then are welcome to visit the cafeteria to sign up for PTA, order spirit wear, and get a Popsicle to enjoy on the playground with your friends! (August)

Dino Spirit Days/Nights: Students and parents are invited to participate in an evening of family fun while at the same time helping to raise money for Deep Wood. Events such as Bush’s Chicken, Hat Creek, and movie nights at school will be scheduled during the school year. A percentage of the proceeds from attending restaurants on specific nights will be donated back to the school. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Deep Wood T-Shirts to these events to show their school spirit. T-Shirts available from beginning of school year until we run out!

Dino Pride: Deep Wood students gather in the cafeteria to congratulate fellow students for jobs well done. Teachers spotlight student successes. Parents are invited to watch and take pictures. (Monthly)

Dino Tracks: A weekly email communication highlighting upcoming activities and sharing important information for Deep Wood families and community.

Field Day: A day of celebration, sponsored by the P.E. department. This is a fun day with many physical activities for the students.

Fun Run: This PTA sponsored event is a fun, healthy activity for the whole family! Students are sponsored on a per lap or by flat donation to raise money for Deep Wood. Student costumes are welcome.

Grandparents’ Lunch: Grandparents – Come join your grandchildren for lunch! Eating with your family in our Dino Diner is Dino-mite!

Harvest Hoedown: PTA plans a wonderful fall festival for the entire Round Rock West community. This event includes fun games, Trunk-or-Treat, and concessions. Families come out dressed in their Halloween costumes to enjoy time together and celebrate fall.

Holiday Sing Along: Our whole Deep Wood family gathers in the cafeteria to sing holiday songs from all over the world.

Homecoming Parade: Round Rock High School welcomes each of their feeder schools to celebrate with them by participating / watching the parade and pep rally.

Hospitality: Goodies, gifts, and treats for the wonderful teachers and staff at Deep Wood on special occasions and sometimes ‘just because’.

Kinder Peek: In the Spring, incoming kindergarten Dinos will spend an afternoon visiting kindergarten classrooms and experiencing all that kindergarten has to offer. Your child will sing, dance, play games and hear great stories while parents meet with the principal to learn a little about Deep Wood.

KDWE Dino News: A daily broadcast planned and executed by students for students, staff, parents and community members to know what is happening around DWE.

Literary Character Dress-Up Day: Near October 31st each year, we invite all students to dress up as their favorite literary character. Please remember no weapons or masks on this day.

Lunch: Yes, we do eat! Parents are always welcome to eat lunch at school with their children. If you will be purchasing a cafeteria lunch, please call the office on the morning of your visit, so that they may prepare for you.

Mondays with Mussey: A weekly broadcast brought to you by Mrs. Mussey for students, staff, parents and community members to know what is happening around DWE.

Mother / Son Event: Please join us for an event just for boys and the special ladies in their lives. Wear your favorite sports jersey/t-shirt (bring your A game!) and get ready for some dancing, games, dinner & ice cream floats!

Newsletter: Documentation of Deep Wood and PTA events, accomplishments, news and information in a monthly publication for teachers, parents, and students.

One School / One Book: Deep Wood families and community come together to read one book over the course of a few weeks. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader and helps to develop a love of reading. We know bringing families together through literature can be a strong bond to help connect parents to their children’s schooling. This creates powerful readers and writers!

Orientation: Kindergarten families and families new to Deep Wood are invited to attend a presentation to learn a little more about Deep Wood.

Parties: Parents may bring a treat for a student’s birthday the last 20 minutes of the school day. The following are school-wide party days: Winter Party (December), Valentines Party (February), and End of Year Party (May)

Pastries with the Principal: This is a monthly time to get together with the principals of Deep Wood, have a pastry, and talk about the designated topics.

Physically Fit: This free afterschool event is held in the fall and spring. Students run/walk the track to participate in a healthy activity and earn awards. PTA Committee members help with lap certificates, permission slips, supplies, donations toward the program, incentives, awards, and just helping keep the kids on track!

Princess Ball: Calling all Princesses who want to spend a special night with their Dad, Uncle, Grandfather, or Special Parent. This event is a MAGICAL evening full of music, dancing, food, refreshments, photo booth, prizes and more.

Red Ribbon Week: Children at Deep Wood and all over the nation focus on the importance of being drug-free in this campaign. (October)

Reflections: An annual, art-inspired event sponsored by the National PTA that gets kids to submit music, art, videos, and anything else they might think of based on an annual theme. The kids love to take part in this event and get their work showcased.

Room Parents: These parents assist the teachers as needed with planning special class functions, parties, and field trips.

School Supplies: This is your opportunity to pre-order school supplies for the next year, delivered to classrooms. No need for parents to go stand in line searching for that particular spiral notebook required for math!

Science Night/Science Fair: This evening features scientists and class science projects. It is the incentive/inspiration for students as they begin their own science projects. The winners of the Deep Wood Science Fair go on to the Austin Regional Science Fair. (Fall/January)

Senior Breakfast:  Current and former Deep Wood teachers and RRHS Senior Parents host a breakfast for all graduating seniors that attended Deep Wood. This is an exciting event highlighting accomplishments and honoring our former Deep Wood Dinos!

Silent Auction: Items are donated by local businesses and individuals to auction off to help raise money for Deep Wood. Featured items are class baskets, teacher treats, and even the coveted VIP Parking Space.

Site Base Decision Committee: Offer advice and recommendations to the Principal and community leaders. The Principal sets the agenda and discusses the topics brought forth. Committee can bring up ideas to be addressed. Usually three or four meetings a year, held after school.

Sock Hop: 5th Grade Fundraiser for their annual (and final) field trip with Deep Wood.

Specials: This is DWE lingo for PE, Art, and Music classes.

Student Directory: The all-time greatest reference tool for Deep Wood Elementary. It has indispensable contact information, schedules, a calendar and even an explanation of Deep Wood events!

STREAM Night: This is an annual community event to celebrate and explore Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math. Special guests are invited to come and present, stations available to explore, and new things to discover.

Thanksgiving Feast: All parents are invited to join the Thanksgiving meal in the Dino Diner with their favorite Dinos. Kindergartners have a special feast just for themselves, complete with costumes! (November)

Teacher / Educational Assistant Appreciation Week: Deep Wood students always appreciate their teachers and educational assistants, but this week in the spring especially acknowledges the effort put forth to make DWE the best learning environment for our children. (May)

Tyrannochorus Rex: Deep Wood’s after school choir for third, fourth, and fifth graders.

UIL: University Interscholastic League exists to provide educational extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests. Deep Wood students practice after school and compete at district events.

Veterans Day Assembly: In November, Deep Wood honors Veterans by inviting them to a special ceremony and breakfast.

Volunteers: We need an army to coordinate and execute all the events that happen at Deep Wood! Whether you have a minute, an hour, or tons of time, we can use you!!!

WATCH D.O.G.S.: Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life. The goal is to have these men spend at least one day a year at the school to be an extra set of eyes and ears as a positive role model. Dads, granddads, uncles, step-dads and adult brother – any male influence in a child’s life – are welcome!

Welcome Walk: Students find out their new teacher when she stops by to visit their house. It will be a brief meet and greet. Teachers can’t stay long because she is going to meet all the other friends in your class.

Yearbook: The Deep Wood Yearbook that preserves the memories of all our kids!
